20 Essex Street has been shortlisted for four of the Legal 500 UK Awards 2017 including:

International Arbitration Set of the Year and Shipping Set of the Year.

In addition, Philip Edey QC is shortlisted for Commercial Litigation Silk of the Year and Timothy Young QC is shortlisted for Shipping Silk of the Year

Philip Edey QC has had a stellar year acting for the LIA in its dispute with Goldman Sachs in what was one of the largest value cases set down for trial in the Commercial Court in 2016. His practice covers a broad range of sectors including banking, civil fraud, shipping and commodities, insurance and energy.

Timothy Young QC is particularly active as counsel in arbitrations, as well as representing clients in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. His recent work includes representing the respondent/ cross-appellant in the Court of Appeal in NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) N.V. v. Cargill International S.A. (Global Santosh) [2014] EWCA Civ 403. The case centred on the meaning of "charterer' agents" in a common additional off hire provision where the NYPE form is used.

Members of 20 Essex Street are continually instructed as advocates in the largest commercial court cases and also frequently appear as counsel and arbitrators in arbitration work of all kinds.
