This is an archived article, and some links may not work. Contact us if you have any questions.

Members of 20 Essex Street are delighted to congratulate Stephen Morris QC on his appointment to be a Justice of the High Court.

The appointment is with effect from 3 October 2016. The Lord Chief Justice will assign Stephen Morris to the Queen’s Bench Division. He was called to the Bar in 1981 and was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1998 and a Recorder in 2000. Between 1999 and 2002, he was Junior Counsel to the Crown (A Panel) and took silk in 2002.

Since December 2004, he has been sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Chancery Division and Mercantile Court, and subsequently in the QBD, Administrative Court. In recent years, he has practised principally in EU and UK competition law, as well as other aspects of EU law and commercial law. His practice in these areas had a particular emphasis on litigation before English courts at all higher court levels. He also acted in proceedings before the OFT, the Competition Appeal Tribunal, the Competition Commission and before the EC Commission and the European Courts and in international arbitration tribunals.

Members wish him every success in this new appointment.
