“The Law of Artificial Intelligence” edited by Matt Hervey, Head of Artificial Intelligence at Gowling WLG (UK) LLP, and Matthew Lavy, barrister at 4 Pump Court, has been published this week.
The text provides an overview of Artificial Intelligence technology and concepts as well as essential guidance on the application of civil and criminal law to AI. Additional areas covered include regulation, liability, ethics and the use of AI within legal services and the administration of justice.
Lawrence Akka QC and Sam Goodman are contributing authors for the chapter ‘AI and Smart Contracts’. Building on their work for the pioneering UKJT Legal Statement on Cryptoassets and Smart Contracts, they examine smart contracts in further detail. The chapter explores whether smart contracts are contracts as a matter of law, how they might be interpreted and amended, issues concerning choice of law, and remedies for breach.
