Professor Philippa Webb has been appointed as a member of a legal Task Force on Accountability for Crimes Committed in Ukraine as announced by the Government of Ukraine on 29 March 2022 (announcement; English translation). Alongside Amal Clooney, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Richard Hermer QC, Tim Otty QC, Lord Neuberger, Professor Webb will provide pro bono support to Ukraine in delivering justice for victims of international crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine. The task force includes legal experts from US firm Covington & Burling LLP, led by Nikhil Gore, the French firm Sygna Partners, led by Luke Vidal, as well as the Withers firm, led by Emma Lindsay.
The task force will be supported by leading academics and bodies, including the newly formed ‘Centre for International Governance and Dispute Resolution’ at King’s College London, of which Professor Webb is the founding co-director. It will work closely with the Clooney Foundation for Justice and the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute. Microsoft Corporation will serve as the technology partner to the task force.
