Daniel Kalderimis appointed a New Zealand King’s Counsel

Twenty Essex barrister Daniel Kalderimis has been announced as one of 19 newly appointed King’s Counsel by New Zealand Attorney-General Judith Collins.

As a New Zealand-based ‘barrister sole’, Daniel has a broad practice, with a particular focus on advocacy in international arbitrations across the Asia-Pacific region. He is also active in commercial and public law litigation, including in the emerging area of legal duties and climate change. In 25 years of practice, Daniel has appeared at all levels of the New Zealand courts, and before numerous international tribunals in Singapore, London and elsewhere. He has experience as an ICC arbitrator, and is New Zealand’s national correspondent to UNCITRAL for the New York Convention and the Model Law.

Daniel was called in New Zealand in 1999, and has subsequently been admitted in New York and as both a solicitor (2006) and barrister (2021) in England & Wales.

The announcement from the New Zealand Attorney-General highlights the 18 KC appointments from 110 applicants, in addition to one honorary appointment. In New Zealand, Daniel is a member of the New Zealand Rules Committee, the statutory body charged with making rules of court, and an adjunct lecturer in civil procedure and advocacy at Victoria University, Wellington.

Daniel’s international practice is conducted through Twenty Essex in Singapore.
