Hong Kong Arbitration Week takes place this year between 25 – 28 October 2021.
Professor Hi-Taek Shin will be speaking on the first panel of the week, “Arbitrating for and against State parties in APAC” on Monday 25 October, 9:00 – 10:30 HKT.
In light of the dynamic political landscape in the APAC region, the risk of both commercial and investment treaty disputes with State parties is ever increasing. In this session, counsel and arbitrators with notable experience of disputes involving State parties in the region will discuss legal, procedural and strategic concerns that commonly arise in these disputes and share tips for effectively managing these disputes. Topics covered include managing commercial and treaty disputes in tandem, mediation and settlements with State parties, controlling risks through contract and treaty drafting, and potential areas of State-related disputes in the current political climate.
