Lord Justice Hamblen appointed to the Supreme Court

Congratulations to Lord Justice Hamblen, formerly a member of Chambers, who has been appointed by Her Majesty The Queen as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. He will take up the position on 13 January 2020.

Duncan Matthews QC, co-head of Twenty Essex, says:

A brilliant but practical mind, focussed and highly effective in his work and economical in his style, he has long been marked out for the top. He has risen swiftly as a star from the early days of his career, taking silk early and moving rapidly thereafter onto the Commercial Court Bench and then up to the Court of Appeal. He is just the sort of Judge the international business community needs in the Supreme Court. The members of Twenty Essex wish him well.”

Sir Nicholas Hamblen was called to the Bar in 1981, joined Chambers in 1982, and practised at the Commercial Bar from 1982-2008. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1997, an Assistant Recorder in 1999 and a Recorder in 2000. He was appointed to sit as a Justice in the High Court in November 2008 and was a nominated Commercial Court judge. In February 2016 he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal.
