An ad-hoc committee, constituted on 26 January 2018, has been formed at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) to hear the request for annulment of the award rendered in the case brought by EuroGas Inc. and Belmont Resources Inc. against the Republic of Slovakia.
Mahnaz Malik of 20 Essex Street Chambers joins the ad-hoc committee, along with Christopher Greenwood and Gabriel Bottini. This appointment sees Mahnaz as one of the youngest ever appointed to an ICSID Annulment Committee since records began and the youngest woman. There are a total of 110 ICSID annulment cases registered to date and 17 women have been appointed on one or more of these committees.
Mahnaz’s co-member, Gabreil Bottini, also comes from the younger generation of arbitrators which marks the changing face of ICSID Annulment Committees.
Throughout her career Mahnaz has been an innovator within the legal industry as recognised by the Financial Times when she was awarded ‘Legal Innovator of the Year 2007’.
