Oppenheim’s International Law on the United Nations

This is an archived article, and some links may not work. Contact us if you have any questions.

Dr Philippa Webb is the co-author of a new instalment in the most important English-language treatise on international law. Oppenheim’s International Law: United Nations is a new publication in the Oppenheim’s series. The series dates back over a century and is regarded as the essential reference for international lawyers.

The new 2 volume book (1500 pages) is an authoritative and comprehensive study of UN legal practice, including the day to day realities of how the UN operates. It is designed to be a guide for legal advisers, foreign ministry officials, UN officials, members of delegations and civil society.

The project has been led by Dame Rosalyn Higgins QC, former President of the International Court of Justice. The co-authors are Philippa Webb, Dapo Akande, Sandesh Sivakumaran and James Sloan.

The book was launched at the United Nations in New York on United Nations Day 2017 (24 October). The UK launch was hosted by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London and at the Peace Palace in The Hague.
