Twenty Essex welcomes Wendy Miles QC to Chambers today. She joins from esteemed global law firm, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, and brings a renowned and successful disputes practice.
Wendy is an established international dispute resolution practitioner with over 20 years’ experience. She is regarded as a leader in the fields of arbitration and public international law. She works across a variety of sectors but with a particular focus on energy and natural resources. Her recent counsel work has directly intersected with public international law in the context of climate change litigation and adaptation pursuant to the Paris Agreement and UNFCCC.
Wendy’s expertise will complement the set’s leading status in international arbitration along with its rapidly growing reputation in energy and natural resources, including climate change litigation.
Duncan Matthews QC, co-head of Twenty Essex, says: “Wendy is very well-known and respected internationally in our areas of practice and brings a strong caseload with her. Her timely arrival in Chambers demonstrates that even in these strange times the set continues to strengthen its international commercial and investor state arbitration offering. Her particular emphasis on energy, natural resources and climate change work, where we are already breaking new ground, brings welcome firepower. As we continue to expand the depth and range of our international disputes work, we are happy to continue to attract the right talent to Chambers.”
Wendy says: “Disruption is a powerful change agent; as business and industry emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and States increasingly focus on creating conditions for recovery and transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions, Twenty Essex has turned its attention to how best to tailor barristers’ services to the new reality. It is tremendously exciting to be part of that journey and to be able to offer my services as counsel and arbitrator from the Bar with all the flexibility that offers, and in particular from Twenty Essex with its rich expertise in all of my core areas of practice.”
Twenty Essex continues to strengthen and expand across all areas of practice. Wendy is the seventh new member of Chambers to join within the past 12 months.
