Contact with chambers should be made through the Practice Management Team. They are happy to discuss client requirements and provide further information on such matters as the expertise and experience of individual members, fees, working practices and languages spoken. We have members able to work in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Greek and Chinese (Mandarin).

Outside working hours, a member of our team is always available to be contacted on matters of an urgent nature. Contact should be made using the Chambers main number or email.

Shipping

Since its foundation, Twenty Essex has been at the forefront of providing a full range of world-class contentious, advisory and dispute management services to the global maritime community. Twenty Essex is based both in London and in its fully-staffed annex in Singapore.

Twenty Essex has acted in many of the industry’s most high profile and commercially important shipping cases.

Members provide English and international law advice on all maritime issues. These include everything from shipbuilding contracts and guarantees, ship sale and ship finance agreements, through to all manner of charterparty issues and bills of lading. With a commercial understanding of how the market works, members across all levels advise shipowners, charterers, P&I Clubs, shipyards, marine insurance underwriters, governments, State-owned enterprises and brokers.

Twenty Essex is made up of multidisciplinary barristers who recognise that there has been fundamental change in the nature of disputes and the demands for advice required by those in the shipping sector. Members act as sole counsel or, when dealing with more substantial matters, as part of larger teams. They are frequently instructed in very technical cases and many members possess expertise beyond the legal field.

Members are affiliated with many of the world’s leading arbitration associations and have substantial arbitration, mediation and ADR practices. The set has an established reputation for advocacy in s 67, 68 and 69 Arbitration Act applications.
