Members of Chambers were very sad to learn of the recent death of Sir Richard Plender after a long period of illness. Sir Richard was one of the earliest and foremost practitioners of EU law at the Bar. He combined an active practice from Chambers with a distinguished academic career at King’s College London (where he was the Director of the Centre for European Law 1988 – 1991) and elsewhere, numerous international legal posts and a prolific output of scholarly publications in numerous languages. He took silk in 1989, was appointed a Bencher of the Inner Temple in 1998 and became a High Court Judge in 2008.
A memorial service will be held in due course.
