Richard’s practice focuses on commercial disputes both in court and arbitration. He has particular expertise in civil fraud and asset tracing, banking and finance, shipping and international trade, international arbitration and private international law.

He is ranked as a leading junior in civil fraud, commercial litigation, shipping and commodities. Client comments include:

Richard has appeared in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court. He has considerable experience of being led in complex, high-value litigation and arbitration, but also regularly appears as sole counsel. The majority of his work has a strong international element and he has acted for clients all around the world. Many of his cases have involved conflict of laws issues and jurisdictional disputes, as well as other interim applications, including freezing injunctions, proprietary injunctions and anti-suit injunctions.

Richard is regularly instructed in complex civil fraud disputes. His current and recent cases include a number of the most high-value/high-profile cases in this area: Al Sadeq v Dechert & Ors; Trafigura Pte Ltd v Gupta; Crypto Open Patent Alliance v Dr Craig Steven Wright; and PJSC National Bank Trust & Another v Boris Mints & Others.

He has extensive experience of arbitral proceedings. His experience covers arbitral proceedings under a variety of rules, including ad hoc, institutional (ICC, LCIA and SIAC) and trade arbitrations (LMAA). In addition, he has considerable experience of applications to court in respect of arbitral proceedings and appeals against arbitration awards.
